For the Betterment of Teens February 24, 2009

Although abstinence is the ideal situation, telling teens to just stay pure until marriage isn’t going to make them quit wanting to have sex or quit having it.  These abstinence-only programs don’t teach teens about protecting themselves, just about a personal decision, which has nothing to do with  teachers.  Kids today need to hear more than all abstinence all the time.  These classes might not affect a teen, but they could hurt the teen adversely.

Okay to Wait February 23, 2009

Though teaching teens how to protect themselves is important, it is more important to teach them to abstain from sexual activity all together.  That is the only true way to protect teens from the growing number of STD’s today.  Abstinence-only sex-education programs are the way to go to help reduce the number of sexually active teens in America.

How Much Is Too Much? February 19, 2009

We all take a health class and learn the basics of sex when we’re too young to take it seriously.  But what should be taught in those classrooms and what is off-limits, is a bigger issue than I ever imagined it to be.  How much is too much to teach kids about being safe or staying pure?  The truth is adolescents need to know how to protect themselves.  An abstinence-only message won’t keep girls from getting pregnant, or guys from getting them pregnant.  Programs that only teach abstinence just aren’t getting the job done.
